A Nordic DIY forest wedding done right!
I’m not going to lie. I was happy dancing for weeks after Annu and Virve asked if I would consider coming to Finland to photograph their forest wedding last year. Of course I said yes. This is their story:
Near the small town of Simpele deep in the forests of Finland – Annu and Virve became wife and wife. Their wedding was the ultimate DIY wedding featuring amazing forest-inspired details. Can you believe they made the arbour, ring-nest, signage and all those other little details themselves. Even the delicious food was home cooked! Definitely one of my absolute favourite weddings I have had the honour of documenting to date!
How cute is this little birds-nest the girls made for their wedding rings!
I also loved this idea of hanging framed couples photos of themselves along the path to the ceremony area. One photo from every year they’d been together already.
And this homemade sign guiding their guests to their ceremony area.
And by far the prettiest arbour I’ve ever seen! Like something out of a nordic dream.
And then the both brides got kidnapped
It is a Finnish wedding tradition for the bride to get ‘kidnapped’ leaving the groom to complete a task to get her back. Well, this time we had two brides so the kidnapping came as a total surprise to both! And instead of the ‘groom’ completing the task their guests had to!
